Lo-fi Friday

I use my beloved Macbook for virtually all of my home entertainment (movies, music, news, videos, and other miscellaneous online distractions). Which is why it was so distressing to realize that yes, the coffee I splashed on the keyboard this morning is indeed going to be a problem. I’m hoping for an easy fix at the Mac repair shop next week. But in the meantime, I’m seeking refuge in the pages of some of my favorite artful books:

The Cone Sisters of Baltimore, by Ellen Hirschland & Nancy H. Ramage — An amazing (non-fiction) story of two sisters who befriended and collected work by Picasso and Matisse long before they were household names, written by my college art history professor and her mother.

The Forgetting Room, by Nick Bantock — An enchanting story, written and illustrated by one of my favorite artists/authors. Bantock has many other fabulous books, and The Artful Dodger (an autobiography of sorts) is another inspiring read.

Photographs from the Polaroid Collection — Not an actual book per se, but this catalog from the auction at Sotheby’s earlier this year is about as awesome as it gets. I’m always astounded at the artistic diversity within the world of instant film.

To top it all off, the most recent issue of Light Leaks magazine arrived in my mailbox today … I can’t wait to check out the winners of this year’s Holgapalooza contest.

** This post is brought to you by something decidedly more high-tech: Tumblr app for Blackberry, I think I love you.
