Just keep shooting …
João Silva, a New York Times photographer, was severely wounded in Afghanistan after he stepped on a mine over the weekend.
According to an update posted by the British Journal of Photography this morning:
But, “here’s all you need to know about the guy … Carlotta [Gall] reports that João kept shooting pictures after the blast, as the medics expertly applied tourniquets, gave him morphine and stretchered him to the helicopter.”
In case you missed that … The guy’s legs were partially blown off, and he was STILL SHOOTING. I always figured that war photographers had to be pretty hardcore, but that’s incredible.
War stories are disturbing and unbearable in many ways, but it’s especially awful to hear about tragedy befalling a photographer. I hope Mr. Silva’s recovery is speedy.
