DIY Ring-Buster Tutorial
When I first started scanning polaroids with my Epson V500, I didn’t notice any problems. People would mention Newton’s Rings, but I never saw any on my own images. Unfortunately, over the past couple months, I’ve started seeing them. And they drive me totally bonkers! It’s especially problematic with the new Impossible films. There’s no way I’ll stop shooting and scanning instant film, so I knew I had to find a way to improve my scans. I’d seen some tips from Flickr friends that said the way to combat the rings is to make sure the image is lifted (just barely) off the glass when scanning. So I made my own “Ring-Buster” scanning mask … It’s so easy and effective that I wanted to share it with all my photographer friends.
The step-by-step set, with annotated photos, is on Flickr. Happy scanning!
